Mercedes-AMG GT4: a new edition of a successful model

Affalterbach.  Following the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG GT3, Mercedes-AMG presents the further development of its globally successful GT4 model for the tenth anniversary season of its Customer Racing Programme. The new Mercedes-AMG GT4 (model year 2020) features new design characteristics and technical optimisations that, among others, enhance the endurance racing performance. Thanks to improved engine and brake cooling, the new Mercedes-AMG GT4 is also able to reliably bring its top performance to the track in extremely hot conditions. Once the homologation has been completed, the first examples of the new model will be delivered in March, 2020.

Ten years of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing: GT success made in Affalterbach

Affalterbach.  For Mercedes-AMG Motorsport, the international 2020 GT season is all about the tenth anniversary of its Customer Racing programme. Since 2010, the race cars of the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach have been successful at the race tracks of this world. Within only one decade, the involvement of the German manufacturer has resulted into one of the world’s leading customer racing programmes. In the past ten years, more than 390 race cars were handed over to customer teams from all over the world who went on to rack up 418 overall wins, 788 class wins and 171 national and international championship titles in over 120 series. The foundation of the success is a programme that is aimed at maximum support and includes numerous features that can be considered as benchmarks. For the 2020 anniversary season, Mercedes-AMG is setting the course for the success story to be continued with the new AMG GT3 and the further developed AMG GT4. Limited-edition models of both cars are produced at the occasion of the anniversary.

Mercedes-AMG claims third place at Bathurst and leads the 2020 IGTC manufacturers’ standings

Mercedes-AMG started the new Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli season with a strong team achievement, a podium finish and the points’ lead: in the 12-hour race at Bathurst, Mercedes-AMG Team Triple Eight Race Engineering secured third place with Shane van Gisbergen (NZL), Maximilian Götz (GER) and Jamie Whincup (AUS). With fifth position for Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo BLACK FALCON with Yelmer Buurman (NED), Maro Engel and Luca Stolz (both GER) and sixth place for Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing with Maximilian Buhk (GER), Felipe Fraga (BRA) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA), two further newly developed Mercedes-AMG GT3 cars finished in the top ten.

Highs and lows for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in IMSA season opener at Daytona

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport had a mixed weekend during the IMSA season opener at Daytona. In the Daytona 24-hour race, traditionally the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the #74 Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 ended up in eleventh place of the GTD class. In the four-hour opening race of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge that took place on the support programme of the classic endurance race, the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach achieved a convincing clean sweep of the top three. Victory went to Customer Racing Team Riley Motorsports (#35) with drivers Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED), Jim Cox and Dylan Murry (both USA).

Mercedes-AMG heads to Bathurst for IGTC season opener with high goals and new Mercedes-AMG GT3

For the 18th running of the prestigious Bathurst 12-hour race (31 January-2 February), Mercedes-AMG Motorsport is entering a total of six Mercedes-AMG GT3s. Next to four Customer Racing cars, there will also be three GT3s with extended works support in action at the 6.213 km long Mount Panorama Circuit. In the process, the Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Black Falcon (#77), Triple Eight Race Engineering (#888) and GruppeM Racing (#999) will all be running the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 that already made its successful competition debut at Dubai and will also be racing at Daytona. The goal for the race is clear: following second- and third-place finishes in 2018 and 2019 respectively, the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach intends to claim victory and thus get itself into a promising position for the remaining races of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli (IGTC). Having just missed out on the drivers’ and manufacturers’ title last year, the double title win is the goal for 2020.

Overall and class wins for Mercedes-AMG in rain chaos of the Dubai 24 Hours

With the overall win and two further class wins in the Dubai 24-hour race, Mercedes-AMG Motorsport is celebrating the 2020 season opener, also the start of the tenth anniversary year of its Customer Racing programme. BLACK FALCON wins the chaotic rain race that had to be stopped after a little over seven hours, scoring the fifth victory for Mercedes-AMG with earlier wins for the SLS AMG GT3 in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and for the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in 2018 and 2020. The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 also convinced in its official competition debut with seventh place overall for SPS automotive performance. In total, four of the eight Mercedes-AMG GT3 that had taken the start finished in the top ten. Two class wins round out the successful performance at Dubai Autodrome: MP Motorsport wins the GT3-Am class and Atlas BX Motorsports claims first place in the GT4 classification with the Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport to start its anniversary season with new GT3 car

For Mercedes-AMG, the 2020 season marks the tenth anniversary of its Customer Racing programme. After the impressive achievements in the previous years, the goal is for the success story from Affalterbach to be continued in the anniversary year. The Mercedes-AMG GT3, newly developed to this end, comes with numerous technical optimisations and will already be making its official competition debut during the season opener in Dubai (9-11 January). With the Rolex 24 At Daytona (22-26 January), the next endurance racing highlight already follows at the end of January, in which Mercedes-AMG intends to defend its title in the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, immediately followed by the Bathurst 12 Hours, the start of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. In the hands of the Customer Racing Teams, the GT3 and GT4 cars from Affalterbach will be doing everything to score titles and race wins all over the world in 2020 as well to crown the anniversary year.

Titles all over the world: a season of success for Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing

The Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Teams have built on the record season in the previous year: in motorsport series all over the world, they racked up over 40 championship titles in 2019. With the recently secured FIA GT World Cup drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles, the most coveted trophies in GT racing also went to Affalterbach. In total, 93 active customer teams scored 247 class wins from 489 races and racked up 625 podium finishes. This year, the trophies for the brand-internal Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Championship went to Nico Bastian (Pro Driver) and Jeffrey Lee (Driver), as well as to the AKKA ASP Team (GT3 Team) and Leipert Motorsport (GT4 Team).

Mercedes-AMG concludes thrilling IGTC season with runner-up positions in drivers’ and manufacturers’ standings

In a memorable finale of this year’s Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli (IGTC), Mercedes-AMG only just misses out on the double of drivers’ and manufacturers’ title. Mercedes-AMG Team SPS automotive performance (#10) finished fifth in the final event of the endurance series at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, enabling Maximilian Götz to secure runner-up spot in the drivers’ standings. Moreover, Mercedes-AMG secures second place in the manufacturers’ standings. Marked by several interruptions and numerous retirements, the Kyalami 9 Hour ended with a class win in the Pro-Am Cup for Strakka Racing (#43).

Mercedes-AMG victorious in FIA GT World Cup at Macau

Raffaele Marciello (ITA) is the winner of the 2019 FIA GT World Cup. In the legendary race around the streets of Macau, the Mercedes-AMG driver posted the fastest time in qualifying, won the qualification race and also kept the entire global GT racing elite at bay in the feature race. For the 24-year-old, who raced for Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM with starting number #999, it is his maiden win at the Macau Grand Prix. For Mercedes-AMG, meanwhile, it is already the fourth victory since 2014. Two further top ten results by Edoardo Mortara (SUI) and Maro Engel (GER) as well as victory in the manufacturers’ classification rounded out the success for the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach.
