After days of blistering summer heat, the start of the Total 24 Hours of Spa took place behind the safety car in pouring rain. In the opening stages, pole sitter Maro Engel (GER) maintained his lead with the #4 BLACK FALCON Mercedes-AMG GT3. As the track gradually dried out, he was the first from the group of the front runners to change to slicks and slightly pulled away. Later on, there were several full course yellows and considerable changes in the field as a result of tactical pit stops. Adam Christodoulou (GBR, Goodsmile Racing & Type Moon #00) showed strong progress, working up his way from 37th on the grid into the top ten. The first scheduled driver changes having been completed, three cars from Affalterbach are among the first ten of the field of 72 GT3 cars. In the Pro-Am class, the #74 (RAM Racing) is in first place.

Pole position for Mercedes-AMG in Spa 24-hour race

Mercedes-AMG has the best perspective going into the 71st running of the Total 24 Hours of Spa. In this evening’s Super Pole session, the qualified Mercedes-AMG GT3 ended up in positions 1, 9 and 15. Maro Engel posted the fastest time of 2m18.588s. Behind the wheel of the #4 Mercedes-AMG Team BLACK FALCON car, Engel (GER) was the last driver to head out onto the track and initially was second-fastest after his first flying lap. On the second lap, the Mercedes-AMG driver worked his ‘magic’ to put in an even better lap on the Circuit of Spa-Francorchamps and as he was the last to cross the finish line in the session, he claimed pole position by 0.017 seconds. Maximilian Buhk (GER) also made it into the top ten of the shootout, having posted the ninth-fastest time with the #999 Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing entry. Gary Paffett (GBR) ended up 15th with the #44 Mercedes-AMG Team Strakka Racing car.

Mercedes-AMG with provisional pole position and three cars in the Super Pole session

At the 24-hour race of Spa-Francorchamps, teams, drivers and fans experienced a hot opening day of track action. In qualifying on Thursday evening, split up into four heats, all participants faced the tough challenge to complete fast lap times in the packed field of 72 GT3 cars. The first two heats were interrupted by red flags. In spite of the turmoil, three of the ten Mercedes-AMG GT3s were able to secure slots for the Super Pole session, first and foremost the #4 Mercedes-AMG Team BLACK FALCON entry, in which Yelmer Buurman (NED), Maro Engel and Luca Stolz (both GER) posted the combined fastest time of the field. The shootout of the 20 fastest cars gets underway on Friday evening and will determine the positions on the first ten rows on the grid for the classic endurance race. In the Pro-Am class, the #74 Customer Racing Team RAM Racing entry posted the fastest time.

Mercedes-AMG is ready to take on the world’s biggest GT3 race

The 71st running of the Total 24 Hours of Spa has officially started with the traditional parade of the participants through the city centre of Spa. In hot summer weather, the ten Mercedes-AMG GT3s taking part in the legendary endurance racing classic presented themselves as well. Four of them – AKKA ASP, BLACK FALCON, GruppeM Racing and Strakka Racing – will be racing with extended works support from Mercedes-AMG. Next to the prestigious overall win, valuable points for several classes and championships are at stake at Spa as well.

Victorious weekend in Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe at Zandvoort

The third season round of the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe saw Mercedes-AMG score its third overall win: at Zandvoort in the Netherlands, the AKKA ASP Team was first across the line with Vincent Abril (MON) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA). For the duo, it was the first overall victory of the season. Meanwhile, Luca Stolz and Maro Engel (both GER) of the BLACK FALCON team only just missed out on a podium finish in fourth place after a strong battle as Nico Bastian (GER) and Thomas Neubauer (FRA) secured second place in the Silver Cup. On Sunday, there were two further top ten results thanks to good performances by BLACK FALCON and AKKA ASP. As a result, Engel and Stolz remain in the lead of the sprint standings as Bastian and Neubauer are still on top in the Silver Cup.

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport victorious at the Nürburgring

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport not only claims a 1-2 in the overall result, but also a pair of class wins in the SP8T and SP10 categories in the fourth season round of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring. With this result, Mercedes-AMG seamlessly builds on the excellent achievements with second place overall and a class win (SP10) in the 24-hour race. In partly changeable conditions in the Eifel, the BLACK FALCON Team AutoArena Motorsport with starting number 6 secured the overall win that also marked the first victory for the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the 2019 VLN season. In second place, the GetSpeed Performance team scored its first overall podium finish at the Nürburgring since changing to Mercedes-AMG for the current season. The class wins for the BLACK FALCON cars with starting numbers 162 and 155 rounded out the successful achievements for the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach.

Mercedes-AMG aims at victory in Spa 24 Hours

The next highlight in the 2019 endurance racing season beckons: from 25-28 July, the Spa 24-hour race is on the schedule for Mercedes-AMG. Since the legendary class win of the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG in 1971, the classic in the Belgian Ardennes has been an unmistakable part of the motorsport DNA of the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach. In this year’s 71st running of the event, ten Mercedes-AMG GT3s will be at the seven kilometres long track, aiming at the overall win. A total of seven different teams will be running the GT3s from Affalterbach. Traditonally, the field assembles the world’s best GT3 teams while the four cars of the Mercedes-AMG Performance Teams AKKA ASP, BLACK FALCON, GruppeM Racing and STRAKKA Racing rank among the favourites.

Podium results and class wins for Mercedes-AMG in Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe at Misano

The series of success for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport also continues during the second race weekend of the season in the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe: at Misano, Raffaele Marciello (ITA) and Vincent Abril (MON) for the AKKA ASP Team with second place overall and Luca Stolz and Maro Engel (both GER) for BLACK FALCON in third place in the first race secured a double podium result. Timur Boguslavskiy (RUS) and Fabian Schiller (GER) celebrated victory in the Silver Cup in fifth place overall. In race two, Engel/Stolz came fourth and secured valuable championship points. Nico Bastian (GER) and Thomas Neubauer (FRA) claimed Silver Cup victory. In the GT4 European Series, Bullitt Racing and Leipert Motorsport again scored overall and class wins with the Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Podium success and class victory for Mercedes-AMG in a turbulent 24-hour race

After 2018, Mercedes-AMG is again on the podium of the world’s toughest motor race. In the 47thADAC Total 24h-Rennen that was held in front of 230,000 fans in perfect outside conditions at the Nürburgring, the #3 BLACK FALCON Mercedes-AMG GT3 secured second place in the overall classification. In a turbulent race, in which retiring favourites, penalties and code 60 phases had their effect on the closing stages, Maximilian Buhk, Hubert Haupt, Thomas Jäger and Luca Stolz (all GER) kept their nerves and secured a podium finish as another prestigious achievement for the performance and sports car brand from Affalterbach. Second place in the Pro-Am classification of the SP9 class for the #18 GetSpeed Performance car and the SP10 class victory by the #70 BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA Mercedes-AMG GT4 round out the result.

Mercedes-AMG with bad luck in the morning hours, but still four cars in the top ten

The 47th ADAC Total 24h-Rennen at the Nürburgring remains thrilling: in the brief summer night, teams with the Mercedes-AMG GT3s initially were able to strengthen their promising positions among the top teams. The #48 Mercedes-AMG Team MANN-FILTER car came out of the night while on course for a podium result. An accident with five hours remaining however blew chances of victory for Lance David Arnold, Maximilian Götz, Christian Hohenadel (all GER) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA). Meanwhile, the class-leading #70 BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA Mercedes-AMG GT4 has good chances of the SP10 class win.
