Mercedes-AMG to start the 2019 motorsport year with a pair of endurance highlights

The goal is clear: after its most successful season ever, Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing is aiming at wins in motorsport series all over the world in 2019 as well. The first ones are envisaged in January in two prestigious endurance racing classics. In the 24-hour race in Dubai from 10-12 January, the BLACK FALCON team will be competing as the previous year’s winners. In the Daytona 24 Hours on 26-27 January, the Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports is starting the new IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season as the defending IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup champions. At the legendary Daytona circuit, Team TGM will be starting off the new year as the defending champions in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with the Mercedes-AMG GT4.

Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing celebrates most successful motorsport season to date

The year 2018 will go down in Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing history as the biggest and most successful season to date: over 160 Customer Racing Teams from all over the world raced the GT3 and GT4 cars from Affalterbach and scored 367 podium finishes and 138 victories from 387 races. These achievements were crowned with over 40 championship titles including the Blancpain GT Series titles for Raffaele Marciello (ITA) and the AKKA ASP Team as well as the Intercontinental GT Challenge drivers’ title for Tristan Vautier (FRA). During the Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing end-of-season celebration, the brand-internal champions were crowned at the end of November: Hubert Haupt (Pro Driver), Valentin Pierburg (Driver), AKKA ASP Team (GT3 Team) and BLACK FALCON (GT4 Team).

A double podium for Mercedes-AMG in 2018 FIA GT World Cup at Macau

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport celebrates a pair of podium finishes in the FIA GT World Cup at the occasion of the Macau Grand Prix. With the #888 Mercedes-AMG GT3, Maro Engel (GER) finished second and in the car with starting number 1, last year’s winner Edoardo Mortara (SUI) rounded out the winner’s podium after the GT3 race with its high-quality field. With another top ten result, Raffaele Marciello (ITA) completed the team’s success at the legendary street circuit in the #999 entry. Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing was running all the three cars from Affalterbach.

Mission title defence: Mercedes-AMG heading to Macau with a top line-up for FIA GT World Cup

For Mercedes-AMG, the legendary Macau Grand Prix is the grand finale of a successful GT season. At the Guia Circuit, three Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be out from 15-18 November with a top line-up to defend the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles in the FIA GT World Cup. Last year’s winner Edoardo Mortara, racing under the Swiss flag, has starting number 1. 2015 race winner Maro Engel (GER) will be racing the #888 while the #999 will have freshly-crowned Blancpain GT Series champion Raffaele Marciello (ITA) behind the wheel. Mercedes-AMG Team GruppeM Racing will be running all the three cars from Affalterbach.

Drivers title for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport after successful season finale at Laguna Seca

Crowning glory for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in the Intercontinental GT Challenge: at Laguna Seca Raceway, Tristan Vautier (FRA) came out on top in the overall drivers’ standings. In the bronze category, Kenny Habul (AUS) secured the title. With third place for Mercedes-AMG Team SunEnergy1 Racing in the California 8 Hours, Vautier, Maximilian Buhk and Maro Engel (both GER) also secured another podium finish for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. In the manufacturers’ standings of the worldwide endurance race series, the performance brand from Affalterbach ends up in second place.

Second and third place for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in VLN season finale

A strong end of the season for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife: Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport #47 with the drivers trio of Patrick Assenheimer, Maximilian Götz (both GER) and Raffaele Marciello (ITA) secured second place overall in the season finale of the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft at the Nürburgring. Hubert Haupt, Luca Stolz (both GER) and Yelmer Buurman (NED) finished in third place with the #6 BLACK FALCON Mercedes-AMG GT3 and thus completed the double podium result for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in the 43rd DMV Münsterlandpokal.

Mercedes-AMG in Laguna Seca IGTC finale with the best title chances and a successful history

Overall drivers’ standings, bronze drivers and GT3 manufacturers – in all three championship categories of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, Mercedes-AMG has very good title chances. Prior to the IGTC finale at Laguna Seca Raceway (26-28 October), Raffaele Marciello (ITA) and Tristan Vautier (FRA) are leading the overall standings while Kenny Habul (AUS) is on course for the bronze drivers’ title. Thanks to the achievements of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 run by STRAKKA Racing and SunEnergy1 Racing in the three IGTC races that have been completed thus far, Mercedes-AMG is also ahead of the opposition in the battle for the manufacturers’ crown. Moreover, the race at Laguna Seca is linked with a historic success: it was here that, exactly 20 years ago, race cars made in Affalterbach secured the title and runner-up spot in the FIA GT Championship in a showdown that remains unforgotten.

Championship titles for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in IMSA GTD and GS class

For the second consecutive time after 2017, Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports wins the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup (TPNAEC). In the final round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Road Atlanta, Ben Keating (USA), Jeroen Bleekemolen (NED) and Luca Stolz (GER) also win the drivers’ title with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 while Mercedes-AMG also secures the manufacturers’ title in the hard-fought North American sports car series. In the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the Team TGM Mercedes-AMG GT4 concludes an impressive debut season in a perfect way by winning the Grand Sports class title. The team and drivers Hugh Plumb and Owen Trinkler (both USA) with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 #46 were the only ones to complete all the races of the 2018 season without retirement.

Mercedes-AMG with good title perspectives in IMSA finale at Road Atlanta

During ‘Petit Le Mans’, the grand finale of the IMSA series at Road Atlanta, teams with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and GT4 cars can crown their strong season performance: in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports is in third place and thus has a good perspective in the battle for the title. Chances in the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup (TPNAEC) are even bigger: in 2017, the drivers with the #33 Mercedes-AMG GT3 already won this prestigious endurance title. In the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 will conclude a rather successful debut season, in which the Team TGM is on the verge of winning the title. Both with the GT3 and the GT4, Mercedes-AMG is among the title candidates in the respective manufacturers’ standings.

A 1-2 and a class win for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife

The Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing Teams showed an outstanding performance in the Eifel today: AutoArena Motorsport wins the eighth VLN round with the #13 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and driver pairing Dominik Baumann (AUT) and Patrick Assenheimer (GER). SPS automotive-performance completes the 1-2 at the Nürbugring-Nordschleife with Edoardo Mortara (ITA) and Renger van der Zande (NED) with starting number 10. In the SP10 class, there is reason to celebrate as well: the BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA makes it to the finish of the 50. ADAC Barbarossapreis as the class winner with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 with starting number 163, Hubert Haupt, Stefan Karg, Fidel Leib and Moritz Oberheim (all GER) already scoring their fourth class victory of this year’s VLN season.
